The remaining traces of the chain saw blade on the finished sculptures bear witness to this. The surface of the sculptures literally becomes the interface between material and artistic work. However, the work of Terence Carr – and this may surprise in this way of working – is almost always a very filigree and detailed ensemble of various elements, objects and figures, which are finally painted very elaborately. Terence Carr gives the individual figurative elements of his sculptures a clear, often intense colourfulness, which is supplemented if necessary by drawing details.

Carr walks borders. Easily and without hesitation, he transcends boundaries between figuration and abstraction, between sculpture and painting, and also the boundaries between the different styles and cultures that inspire his work, and which in turn are transformed by this work.

Over the years, Terence Carr has developed his sculptural work into a highly personal repertoire of forms and figures, which as a staff and inventory of his „great world theater“ can be combined again and again to create new sculptural „pieces“ that can be expanded if necessary.”

– Tillmann Damrau

1993 Swabian Art Award Kreissparkasse Bank Augsburg

1999
